Rare Coins Included in the Collection

An exceptional and highly sought-after 1813 King George III 'Military' Gold Guinea (S-3730), certified and encapsulated by PCGS in Mint State condition (MS63). The obverse presents the Sixth Laureate Head portrait of King George III designed by Lewis Pingo, while the reverse features a beautifully detailed crowned shield of arms within the Garter, bearing the motto 'HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE' and the date 1813. Struck during a brief production run between February and June 1813, this famous one-year issue was commissioned by the Royal Mint specifically to pay the British troops advancing through the Iberian Peninsula under the Duke of Wellington during the Peninsular War. It represents the final year date of the classic British Guinea before the denomination was officially replaced by the modern Gold Sovereign in 1817. Due to its historical significance, low original production run, and critical role in the defeat of Napoleon's forces, high-grade examples displaying original mint lustre are extremely scarce. This coin realized a remarkable hammer price of £7,800, well exceeding its conservative auction estimate.
